I was proud to be a mom and loved feeding my daughter, so why was I acting so ashamed? I hadn’t brought my nursing cover, the tasteful shawl I made a point of wearing while feeding her in public. And besides, I was proud to be a mom and loved feeding my daughter, so why was I acting so ashamed? And once I started breastfeeding in public myself, most people didn’t really notice — or at least, they acted like they didn’t. But once she reached our stretch of the sidewalk, this stranger didn’t ask any of those questions.

"Fantasy" by Mariah Carey"Fantasy" was released in 1995. Mariah Carey/YouTubeThe Hot 100 is widely considered the definitive all-genre singles chart in the US. Although it was officially launched in 1958, Billboard began using modern airplay and sales data in 1991, allowing for more time-sensitive calculations and accurate rankings. "Fantasy," the lead single from Carey's fifth studio album "Daydream," was the first song in the modern era to become an immediate and long-lasting hit. The song spent eight weeks atop the Hot 100.

CNN —It was a dream come true for millions of Taylor Swift fans, after the superstar released her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” at midnight on Friday. “The strongest reset for the circadian system is bright light,” said Dr. Phyllis Zee, director of the Center for Circadian and Sleep Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. “Research shows that movement can boost circulation and increase alertness, helping you shake off that sleepiness faster,” Daddy Dasgupta said. “It could limit your ability to sleep well that night,” said sleep specialist Kristen Knutson, an associate professor of neurology and preventive medicine at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. And of course, listening to Taylor Swift counts as long as you turn it off before bed!”CNN’s Madeline Holcombe, Kristen Rogers and Ashley Strickland contributed Taylor Swift lyrics to this article.

Opinion: The big question about the Israel-Hamas truce

We’re looking back at the strongest, smartest opinion takes of the week from CNN and other outlets. And then it was back to war — a conflict in which some 8.5 million soldiers from all sides would ultimately die. The timing of the Israel-Hamas truce that took effect Friday had nothing to do with a holiday. But there is also the possibility that this truce won’t last much longer than the one in 1914. “The deal arguably strengthens Hamas, allowing it to claim credit, catch its breath and regroup,” wrote Frida Ghitis.

A Pandemic Novel That Never Says ‘Pandemic’

DAY, by Michael CunninghamMichael Cunningham’s new novel, “Day,” visits a family on April 5 in 2019, 2020 and 2021 — before, during and after the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, which shadows the book although the words “Covid” and “pandemic” never appear. Both she and Dan consider her gay brother, Robbie, a sixth-grade teacher who lives alone in the attic of their brownstone, to be their closest friend. The novel’s first April day, in 2019, finds Isabel apologizing to Robbie because she and Dan are about to evict him. To soften the blow, Isabel recalls an old daydream. In his first novel, “A Home at the End of the World,” a gay man, a bisexual man and a straight woman tried to raise a child in an upstate house.

Jimmy Buffett built a pop-culture empire on the daydream of “wastin’ away again in Margaritaville”: just hanging out on a tropical beach, drink in hand, a little wistful but utterly relaxed. Buffett leveraged it into a major brand for restaurants, resorts, clothing, food and drink, as well as a perpetual singalong on his robust touring circuit, where his devoted fans — the Parrot Heads — gathered eagerly in their Hawaiian shirts. Buffett cannily marketed his good-timey image; it made him a billionaire. He came up with wry song premises like the one behind “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” which starts as the lament of an attempted vegetarian who can’t resist carnivorous impulses. But Buffett’s songwriting wasn’t all smiley and one-dimensional.

Read any story about Tracy Britt Cool, and you're likely to come across the same anecdote. After graduating from Harvard Business School in 2009, she mailed a letter to Berkshire Hathaway Chairman Warren Buffett asking for a job at the legendary firm. After meeting with the Oracle of Omaha, she got one working as Buffett's financial assistant. The letter, and the tremendous success that it's led to, is the stuff MBAs and aspiring entrepreneurs daydream about. And maybe it was — but Britt Cool was willing to take a million shots.

Interest rates are high right now, so we'll rent for the time being, which brings many advantages. Plus, putting more than 20% down may help lower your interest rate. I like to focus on what I can control within my financial plan. An adjustable-rate mortgage, by definition, leaves me with an interest rate that will change in a way that I can't control. Later this month, users of the platform will have a chance to apply to stay in Gwyneth Paltrow's guesthouse in Montecito, Calif. The one-night stay is a promotion for the "Shallow Hal" star's Goop wellness brand, and promises to give Paltrow's guests "favorite Goop essentials to nourish your body, mind and soul." In my book, "Win Every Argument: The Art of Debating, Persuading, and Public Speaking," I outline the two types of listening to master: critical listening and empathetic listening. Good listening skills boost your credibility and make you sound confident. People who win arguments and are good at debating don't just speak well, they listen well, too. You need to be a critical listener when your teacher is giving you feedback on an essay you wrote. By listening critically to your opponent and being ready to catch fallacious or false claims, you can prepare zinger-like responses, and win your argument.

It can be hard to focus on work when temperatures are climbing into the hundreds and every other person you follow on Instagram is vacationing in Europe. Even if you can't slack off at your job — or take a break from work altogether — it is possible to work less and still be productive in the summer. "Working fewer hours in the summer doesn't mean you're neglecting your responsibilities and doing a bad job," says Marisa Jo Mayes, a self-employed TikTok creator and startup founder who coined the "Bare Minimum Mondays" workplace trend. It might feel counterintuitive, but past research has shown that slowing down at work can also help curb stress, thus making it easier to focus and be productive. Here, Mayes and two productivity experts share their best advice for getting more work done in less time during the summer:

The fan communities that have formed around these pairs are forged through wondering and wishing, in-jokes and lingo and those in the know. Our touchstone isn’t the friendship itself; it’s a feeling, an act of quiet yearning, a longing look and a passed note. For many queer women, first love means falling for a friend, hiding your feelings and hoping they’ll pass, pretending to like boys — and underneath all that, praying she feels it, too. Much has been written about the perverse parasociality of fandom, the blurring line between public displays of devotion and invasions of privacy. Queer fandoms often foster an especially ardent passion, passed among people who’ve felt misunderstood and judged for whom they love, finally publicly expressing adoration.

That's worrying concert venues that depend on alcohol sales for their profits, Billboard reported. "Bar sales are important for every music venue, but especially for smaller ones," a talent agent told the magazine. That's because alcohol sales help keep the lights on at clubs around the country. David Slutes, who runs a venue called Club Congress in Tuscon, Arizona, said that he'd noticed alcohol sales had dropped up to 25% when booking shows for a Gen Z-focused crowd. Some venues told the magazine they're experimenting with renting out their facilities for more private events to make up for lost revenue.
